Course in Miracles — It’s Exactly what It’s

Perhaps you have heard the expression “it is what it is”? What does that expression mean exactly?

Before I understood the deeper meaning with this expression, I envisioned an emaciated yogi guru in the lotus position floating above the floor imperiously imparting wisdom that could take scholars multiple lifetimes to interpret. Since how that is my last life in the world and the lotus position would put me in traction, I knew that consulting the Course In Miracles would help me clarify its meaning.

What is the IT that people are writing about here? Based on the Course in Miracles, IT is truth, specifically God’s truth. Why is it vital that you emphasize that it’s God’s truth? Because God’s truth is not open to interpretations whereas a human’s truth is a course in miracles. Multiple versions of human truth have result in a myriad of religions. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia defines religion as a “system of thought, feeling, and action that’s shared by way of a group and that gives the members a subject of devotion.”

Who devised the machine of thought? On whose feelings are these thoughts based? Are actions really necessary? Based on the Course In Miracles, God just is and our ultimate goal is to go back to a perfect state of being. There is no thought or action in their state of being, you only are. What mustn’t be forgotten could be the underlying thread of religions: God is creator, God is love and we’re all perfect and infinite children of God.

Put another way, “it is what it is” can be rewritten to “God’s love is the sole truth and it is absolute” and this truth knows no bounds and is timeless.
