The Most High priced Santa Letter Actually

Entertainment

It is mid-July 2019 and I am in Denver participating in the IAMPETH conference. This is my sixth time joining, and I grieve for all the decades I didn’t know existed. Two thousand nineteen marks seventy decades of the Global Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Educators of Handwriting, offering the absolute finest of teaching and sharing the artwork of beautiful handwriting at their annual conferences.

I’ve practiced calligraphy for over thirty decades, for the first twenty-one, I’d claim, mainly self-taught. It absolutely was difficult to get local teachers with whom to function, and it wasn’t till online assets were available that I really found my first one-on-one lettering mentor. This was in the proper execution of a correspondence course with Thomas Ingmire, a calligraphic artist in the San Francisco area.

Thomas delivered me a thick packet describing what paper, pen, nibs, and ink to buy, with painstaking directions about coating my report and producing precise margins. Each session involved exemplars for making great Versals. I would do my preparation, and mail it back to him in San Francisco, in a white cardboard cover with a lot of shipping stamps. Within several months, Thomas might return might work in the same package, together with his delightful red correction marks and recommendations for improvement penned into my correctly calculated margins.

Much like many things in life (all?), as I started a further study of calligraphy and working with a master, I had a view to the substantial chasm of what I didn’t know. I become aware of lots of the self-taught problems I had been reinforcing in my practice.

But oh how I loved the text and attempting to master these lovely forms.
You have undoubtedly noticed the concept of Flow. Per Wikipedia:

Flow…also identified colloquially as being in the zone, could be the intellectual state of function in which an individual performing an activity is completely submerged in a sense of stimulated focus, whole involvement, and pleasure along the way of the activity. Essentially, movement is characterized by total assimilation in what one does, and an ensuing loss in one’s feeling of space and time.

There’s an excellent point about being in Flow, relating Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. That special spot to be challenged, but not really much that you will be discouraged enough to give up…therefore that every tiny effort you make to understand anything new, maintains those small strikes of dopamine coming and coming.

That is what studying and exercising the art of beautiful handwriting is for me. I enjoy the task of spacing letters, getting involved with the nuanced movements of a pen nib, translating the right perspective or slant line, flourishing a page, or discovering how different inks focus on different papers.

I now not only attend calligraphy and text conventions shown by owners from all over the world, but I also study with mentors and educators in online life and noted classes. Rarely does a day pass by without my exercising this beloved art form.

All of this is reflected in the enjoyment and attention I placed into my Letters from Santa.

While my reports and pictures tend to be more folk art than artwork, the continued energy and gratitude I bring to might work culminates in each package I lovingly send out.

I hand-write and illustrate all my Words from Santa. They are produced onto parchment and water-colored by me or still another wonderful elf.

As I look back on the fact this has been a growing little enterprise for more than 25 decades, even when my calligraphic efforts were so simple (they however are, but my specialized ability is much better), I believe the main reason my clients buy for five, twenty, twenty plus decades, is because of the p.s. at the end of the letter from santa claus

Parents can give me information about the crucial items that occurred inside their child’s living over the last year. Occasionally it’s a lost enamel that scored them gold money under their cushion, occasionally the delivery of a brother, or even a valiant effort at operating for a typical office. I hand-write the p.s., sometimes phrasing it myself, or applying phrases specifically requested by the parent (or whoever has ordered). For customers who have continued this tradition, the absolute most wonderful living activities are archived in Santa’s words to be re-visited over and around again.

Each package is hand-lettered in an attractive shade of ink, attached with a North Pole stamp of my creation, and printed with the existing year’s postmark. That cover, unsealed so the parent can check always for errors or necessary upgrades (a certainly required present won’t be available, or the hamster died…etc) is surrounded in an outer package addressed to the parent.

I refer to parent and kid, but my selection of items has extended to incorporate letters for grown advantages and older children. Once a household has begun their Xmas Page custom, they frequently wish to continue, also once the kiddies know ‘The Truth about Santa.

So, I’ve yet to see yet another Santa Letter changed the way I’ve my words priced. I also have never observed still another Letter from Santa that could be a keepsake piece of artwork for years to come. I invite you to search my words and find anyone to delight your son or daughter or even a specific adult in your life. You could find this little investment is the beginning of an important convention for the family.
